Senior solutions from Cape Cod Online - Dec 5 2012

Published on 12/6/2012

Nauset Neighbors, an "aging in place" program on the Lower Cape, is trying to expand, but it needs more volunteers.

Nauset Neighbors tries to keep seniors in their homes as long as possible. "This is done by providing transportation to doctors, hairdressers, friends' homes and the like," Patricia Zeiss, membership director, said in an email to the Times. "Air conditioners are installed and removed; pictures and mirrors are hung; light bulbs are changed; computer problems are solved; complicated remote controls are explained; 70 years of photographs are shared over a cup of tea."

These tasks are performed by an all-volunteer staff in 140 households on the Lower Cape. "The goal is to help more seniors, but to do this more volunteers are needed," she said. "Close to 20 households are now on a waiting list... . Think about giving some of your time to this most worthwhile organization. Everyone is going to need help someday."
